HOBOKEN – Sixteen guests remained as of Tuesday morning at an emergency shelter set up at the Wallace Primary School in Hoboken. Tuesday morning, cots were open, and garbage bags full of laundry filled the halls.
One shelter volunteer said Tuesday that the shelter was closing at the end of the day and that he was worried about the guests. The city’s longstanding homeless shelter at 300 Bloomfield St. is full, the volunteer said.
With a nor’easter coming, it’s not a good time to be on the street. But city spokesman Juan Melli said Tuesday that the temporary shelter is only being moved to another location. Wallace School may have to open for school on Thursday.
Melli said that another shelter will open for the remaining guests.
