Stack should do the right thing

Dear Editor:
What’s the big secret? Why is this newspaper forced to submit a written request similar to a Federal Level Freedom of Information Act just to find out whether or not our local elected commissioners in Union City are receiving free health benefits even though as part time employees they are not supposed to be eligible for such a local taxpayer funded benefit.
As a retired Federal Agent who is grateful that I am entitled to health coverage that I pay for out of my monthly pension check, I know all too well that far too many of my fellow residents of Union City struggle with that heartbreaking monthly dilemma between should I fill my prescription or instead buy food and pay my rent or mortgage on time.
One sad fact that I became all too aware of while employed by the Social Security Administration in Jersey City for nearly 29 years is that we continue to have a high rate of HIV among Hispanic men in North Hudson.
Being someone who has tirelessly helped out the group Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS, which does assist various organizations in our region, to raise badly needed money for this worthwhile cause, I don’t think it’s asking too much for these local officials in our community to do the right thing and not just think of their own personal economic comfort.
