BLACK, LOUISE HELEN

A funeral mass was held Oct. 10 at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City, for Louise Helen Black. She was born in Jersey City to the late Naomi and James Black, Sr. She graduated Lincoln High School in 1956. She was a graduate of Rutgers Newark and received a master’s from Rutgers School of Social Work. An athlete as well as a scholar, she was a Junior National Champion for 880 yard run and made the Olympic Trials in 1964. She was inducted into the Hudson County Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Hudson County Hall of Fame in 2008. She was the sister of the late James Black, Jr. Surviving to cherish Louises’ memory are: daughter Leslie McRae Ferguson and son in law William Ferguson; two sisters, Mervis Black and Lois Black Salley; two grandsons, Jason McRae and Kelly McRae Dunne; great granddaughter, Amiyah McRae; two nephews, Dwayne Salley and Richard Carter III; niece, Shani Thompson; and a host of grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
