A funeral service was held Oct. 3 for James J. Grady, 82, a well-known Hoboken (WillowTerrace) resident since the 1950s. He passed away Sept. 28. A proud United States Navy veteran, “Red,” as he was known, was born in Hawley Pa. He was a retired trucker who worked in his early years with local trucking firms. For the past 10 years, he was known by the neighborhood as the crossing guard with the smiling face, regardless of inclement weather, posted at the corner of 6th and Madison streets in Hoboken. He was known by many as the ‘Norm on Cheers’ of Willie McBrides. He often conversed with his many friends at the A&P only steps from his home. Mr. Grady was predeceased by his loving wife Agnes Watt and cherished son James Grady. Surviving are his son Ian; three daughters, Rita Williams, Karen Raia and her husband Frank “Pupie” Raia, and Donna Madsen and her husband Michael; two brothers, Robert and Richard Grady; and two sisters, Kathryn Franklin and Mary Agnes White. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Heather, Noelle, Theresa, Grace, Michele, Michael, and Ryan as well as seven children who referred to him as “Great-Grand Pa”. He will always be in our hearts. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who shared their condolences. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
