Man shot and killed in Jersey City
JERSEY CITY – Jersey City police were seeking help last weekend locating the person or people who shot and killed a 21-year-old man on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Friday evening. The person was not captured as of press time.
The victim was shot twice – once in the abdomen and one once in his lower
back – while sitting in a parked car on MLK Drive. at around 5 p.m., according to a report from the daily newspaper.
The victim, whose family is based in Virginia, had recently relocated to Jersey City, according to the report.
Police do not believe the victim, who was identified in the newspaper as Jalauni Harrington, knew his attacker or attackers. There was no known motive for the murder.
Anyone with information regarding this murder is urged to call the Prosecutor’s office at (201) 915-1345.
This is the second time this year that a new resident to Jersey City has been murdered shortly after relocating to this area.
Artists’ Studio Tour kicks off Friday, Oct. 12
The weekend of Oct. 12 and 13 is sure to be a great one for local art and film lovers. The 22nd Annual Jersey City Artists’ Studio Tour is taking place both days, as is the Golden Door Film Festival (see the Jersey City Reporter for expanded articles about both events, or go to hudsonreporter.com).
The Artists’ Studio Tour kicks off with a party Friday, Oct. 12 and opens its exhibits Saturday and Sunday. The tour is a free two-day self-guided walking tour of galleries, exhibitions, artists’ studios, and art in public spaces. The Hudson Reporter newspaper group is a co-sponsor.
The tour is hosted and organized by the Jersey City Division of Cultural Affairs and the nonprofit organization Pro Arts.
Each year, the tour showcases the work of professional artists who live and create in Jersey City, but whose art may be unfamiliar to the larger community. While many sites along the tour route are located downtown (waterfront area), organizers emphasize there are several dynamic group shows this year in the Jersey City Heights, Greenville, and Bergen-Lafayette communities as well.
The kickoff party is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Tenmarc Building, 430 Comunipaw Ave. Free shuttle service will be provided from the Grove Street PATH Station to the Tenmarc Building for this event. The opening night party is free and open to the public. The Division of Cultural Affairs, however, encourages those attending the opening night celebration to arrive early.
Free shuttles will also be available throughout the weekend from the Grove Street PATH Station to various stops along the tour route. Three shuttles will be available and will operate during the Studio Tour hours of noon to 6 p.m.
See this weekend’s Jersey City Reporter for a special section and map.
