Hoboken Arts and Music Festival today (Sunday, Sept. 30)

The Hoboken Arts and Music Festival comes to Washington Street, from Seventh Street to Observer Highway, on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. rain or shine. The festival will feature live music on three stages, over 350 vendors, food, games for children, and more. For a full list of performances, see schedule inside.

Decision day for the Davinci Charter School

Go, Dog. Go!

Mile Square Theatre is staging a musical and comical production of P.D. Eastman’s classic children’s book, “Go, Dog. Go!” Proceeds from the opening performance scheduled for Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. will benefit the Hoboken Charter School. The production will run until Oct. 14. Monday Night Football at the Elks Club

Monday Night Football returns to the Elks Club, 903 Washington St., Hoboken. The tradition kicks off on Oct. 1, with a telecast of the game between the Bears and the Cowboys. All games begin at 9 p.m. however a buffet will be served by the Elks committee at 7 p.m. and will cost $10. Funds raised benefit various local charities.
The Oct. 1 game proceeds will benefit the Elks Wildwood Convention Committee. The final game will be Dec. 17 and has been designated a Ladies Night.

Wicked Wolf Donates $1,410 to Dine InDeed

Wicked Wolf Tavern at 120 Sinatra Drive Hoboken recently donated $1415 to Dine InDeed. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Hudson County, the Jubilee Center, and the Association for Autism Treatment joined together to launch Dine InDeed 2012. Sweating for a cause

Hoboken residents are invited to Pier A on Saturday Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. to break a sweat in support of the Hoboken Charter School. Work It Out Fitness Studio and Stroller Power Fitness will host a 60-minute workout with a suggested donation of $10 to be donated to the Hoboken Charter School. Refreshments will be provided post-workout.

Eighth Annual Pet Fair & Parade

The Hoboken Museum will hold a Pet Fair & Parade on Sunday Oct. 7 from noon to 4 p.m. at Maxwell Place Pier. The event will take place near 12th Street and will feature costume contests, talent competitions and more than 20 local pet service providers. The event will also offer a low-cost microchip clinic sponsored by the NJSPCA for just $25. The first 100 attendants will receive a free gift bag from event sponsors and admission is free. Bopping Heads

NJ Bopping Heads, formerly of Atlantic City and Seaside Boardwalks, will be making an appearance at Liberty Bar and Grill on Wednesday Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. Bopping Heads entertainment videos use green screen technology to superimpose your head onto dancing bodies and then captures the performance on a take-home DVD. Join them for food, drinks and fun and create your very own Bopping Heads video.

Family Fun Night

Hoboken Mommies is hosting a Family Fun Night on Wednesday Oct. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pier 13. Polka Dot and Preschool of Rock will be performing. Book Drive for the Charter School

Hoboken Public Library is hosting a Book Drive to help rebuild the Hoboken Charter School. The Hoboken Library, 500 Park Ave. Hoboken, is taking donations of new and gently used books for grades K-8 until Friday Oct. 5. State agrees with city on disciplinary actions

Two recent decisions sided with the city of Hoboken when it came to former employee lawsuits.
The termination of long-time Construction Code Official Alfred Arezzo was upheld by the Civil Service Commission. Arezzo was suspended for alleged refusal to attend mandatory sexual harassment training and alleged insubordinate behavior. According to the Final Administrative Action document from the state, Arrezo was then terminated after allegedly not turning in certain equipment, including the hard drive for his computer.
United States District Court Judge for the District of New Jersey, the Honorable William J. Martini, dismissed the federal case filed by former Police Lt. Angelo Andriani against the city of Hoboken, the Hoboken Police Department, Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Police Chief Anthony Falco, and Police Captain Edelmiro Garcia.
Andriani was the lieutenant who was in charge of the Hoboken SWAT team when the team engaged in controversial behavior on humanitarian trips to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Andriani was disciplined for other matters as well.

Youth LaCrosse

There will be a Youth Lacrosse free clinic on Sunday Oct. 14 at Mama Johnson Field at Fourth and Jackson streets. The event is sponsored and staffed by the Northern NJ Youth Lacrosse League. The schedule for boys and girls is as follows: K thru 2nd grade is at 11 a.m., 3rd and 4th grade is at noon, 5th and 6th grade is at 1 p.m. and 7th and 8th grade is at 2 p.m. Sticks are provided.

Parenting workshop

There will be a workshop on Tuesday Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Mustard Seed School, 422 Willow Ave., Hoboken. The workshop, “How to Make Power Struggles Optional and Obsolete”, is hosted by AOL/Huff Post Parent’s parenting expert Susan Stiffelman. It will teach parents to come alongside their children and teens, reduce defensiveness, and awaken a child’s willingness to compromise. The event is free but RSVP is requested at www.mustardseedschool.org to reserve space.

Midwife arrested after home birth in Hoboken

The midwife who assisted in the delivery at a Garden Street home in which the baby was later pronounced dead, has been charged with practicing medicine without a license.
The 31-year-old woman appeared in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City a week ago Friday, according to NJ.com.
According to the story, the woman was charged with being involved with the practice of medicine while her midwifery license was suspended or revoked.
It is not known for sure whether the child was stillborn or died after birth. An autopsy is still being conducted. The Prosecutor’s Office, when contacted Thursday, said they did not yet have the results. Watch hudsonreporter.com for updates.
