NORTH BERGEN AND BEYOND — A man whose body was found in the Hudson River near North Bergen last week has been identified.
Captain Gerald Sanzari of North Bergen Police Department said the man was 73 years old. Officials asked the press to withhold his name from reports out of respect for the family.
The man was reported missing from Bellevue Hospital in New York last week. According to Sanzari, he was reported an endangered missing person by the New York Police Department and might have had a mental or physical disability.
Approximately 24 hours after he was reported missing, his body washed up near North Bergen. He still had the identification bracelet from Bellevue Hospital, and the NYPD made a positive ID of the victim.
A Port Authority Official concluded that the death was a suicide due to findings by the medical examiner and due to items that were left behind on the George Washington Bridge.
