Baby pronounced dead after home birth in Hoboken

HOBOKEN AND BEYOND — A newborn was pronounced dead on Tuesday after a Hoboken couple delivered the baby by a home birth in a Garden Street home, prosecutors confirmed on Thursday. The biological father, a mid-wife, and a doula (non-medical labor coach) were all present at the birth, according to Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Michael D’Andrea.
D’Andrea commented Thursday that police and medical personnel were contacted after the death but there is no confirmation of whether the baby was born alive or delivered stillborn. The mother was subsequently hospitalized, and a further investigation, including a post mortem exam, is being conducted.
