POULOS, STEVEN M.

A funeral service was conducted Sept. 7 at St. Demetrios Church, Jersey City, for Steven M. Poulos, 90, of Jersey City. He passed away at the Atrium at Hamilton Park on Sept. 4. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Poulos was a true native son, remaining a resident and owner of the Poulos Deli on Palisades Avenue for over 50 years where he was renowned for his delicious rice pudding. Steven was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a US Army Medic, 66th Infantry Division and was the recipient of numerous medals including the NJ Distinguished Service Medal. Steven was an active member of both St. Demetrios Church in Jersey City and The Assumption Church in Wyndham, New York. He was an avid sports enthusiast and Yankee fan. Loved and respected by all those who had the privilege to know him, his loss will be felt greatly. Steven is survived by his wife of 65 years, Despina (nee: Peni) Poulos; 2 sons, Steven Poulos and Bishop Andonios; daughter, Denise Cecchini and her husband, Perry; sister Helen Coris; grandchildren, Steven Poulos and his wife Ana, Melissa Poulos, Elenie Grasos and her husband Vasilios, Gianna and Alexa Cecchini and great grandchildren Zoe Charles, Mario, Stephanos and Patrikia Grasos.
