Looking for some answers

Dear Editor:
I would like to comment on the recent events unfolding in North Hudson. North Bergen Mayor Sacco claims North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue was recently ordered by the New Jersey State pension system to pay over $1,000,000.00 in interest fees. Union City Mayor Stack claims Union City pays its share, the largest of the participating members, by the end of the year. Fiscal, calendar or are they the same? Anyway the question remains – why are these fees being assessed? Are payments to the New Jersey State Pension system being forwarded late? Fire personnel’s 10 percent pension payments are deducted every pay, without fail. They are paying more now than ever before because we are told the system is under-funded. Wonder why? As one of 225,000 residents protected by the Fire Department and a taxpayer, I think we deserve the answers.

Sincerely,
David Flood Resident and Taxpayer Weehawken, NJ
