A mass of Christian burial was conducted Sept. 14 at St. Benedict R.C. Church, Holmdel, for Augustine Byrne, 81, of Hazlet. He passed away Sept. 10. He was born in Hoboken, where he grew up. Later, he moved to Jersey City and in 2005, ultimately settled in Hazlet. He worked for the Jersey Journal for 45 years in the printing department, retiring in 1996. He was predeceased by his son, Gary Byrne. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna (Holland) Byrne; his daughter, Jean Dischler and her husband James of Hazlet; his sister, Mary Spuma and her husband George of Bayonne; his 5 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Services arranged by the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Hazlet.
