State School Development Authority’s contributions to WNY total $186 million with completion of new PS 3

WEST NEW YORK –West New York Public School Number 3, which will provide more than 700 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade with an educational facility that will foster generations of lifelong learners, opened to students on Sept. 6.
“The opening of West New York Public School Number 3 is a great accomplishment for the SDA and the West New York school district,” said Schools Development Authority (SDA) CEO Marc Larkins in a press release. “The Christie Administration’s commitment to bringing this project to completion has helped to address the facility needs that exist in the district. Through continued collaboration and cooperation, the SDA is providing the students of West New York with the educational facilities they need to realize their educational potential.”
The new school is an 110,120-sq.-ft. facility that includes 42 general and special education classrooms, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, an auditorium, science labs, a music room, instructional rooms, computer labs and an art room.
“On behalf of the school district, I would like to thank Governor Christie for helping to bring this project to completion and also Congressman Albio Sires for his efforts to initiate the project while he was Speaker of the Assembly,” said West New York Superintendent John Fauta in the release. “This building is a marvelous addition to the community and will go a long way toward relieving the severe overcrowding that exists in the district. The students are excited and appreciate the opportunity to begin this school year in a new facility that will provide them with a positive educational environment.”
The $65 million school is the fourth major school project in West New York completed by the SDA. The SDA has invested nearly $186 million in completed projects in West New York since the inception of the school construction program, the release stated.
The SDA’s current portfolio of active projects is valued at over $2 billion – including the 2011 and 2012 – with Capital Project portfolios (more than $1 billion), additional projects in construction ($132 million), emergent projects ($43 million) and Regular Operating District grants ($743 million state share).
