HOBOKEN — Steven Ercolino, who was shot to death on Friday in front of the Empire State Building — allegedly due to a co-worker’s grudge — had recently moved to the luxury Altessa building in Union City to live with his girlfriend, according to media reports.
Reporters said that Ercolino, a 41-year-old salesman, was shot by an older designer who had once worked with him at a New York handbag company.
According to the New York Times, Ercolino took the PATH train from Hoboken to New York City the morning that the incident occurred. After exiting the station, he was walking to work when he got shot.
Outlets including the Times incorrectly reported that Ercolino lived in Hoboken. In fact, he lived in the relatively new Union City high rise, with views of the New York City skyline. He took a shuttle to the Hoboken PATH for work.
Friends have mourned him on a Facebook page.
