GILL, MARTIN J.

A funeral mass was offered Aug. 6 at Our Lady of Grace, Hoboken, for Martin J. Gill, 83. He died July 30. Born in Hoboken, he lived there all of his life. A graduate of St. Michael’s High School and Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Martin was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Hoboken; The Knights of Columbus Council 159; our Lady of Grace Holy Name Society; Vice Commander of Garbarini Mazaraltos American Legion Post 152; Hudson County President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians; Hoboken St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee Irishman of the year in 1992; member of the Board of Directors for Hoboken Chamber of Commerce; Member of Our Lady of Grace Fife Drum and Bugle Corp. in Hoboken; Post 107 of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp.; Garbarini Mazaraltos drum and Bugle Corp.; and Consolidated Edison Drum and Bugle Corp.
He was an instructor for the St. Patrick’s Fife Drum and Bugle Corp. in Jersey City; St. Joseph’s Drum and Bugle Corp. in Newark and Blessed Sacrament Drum and Bugle Corp., Newark. He was a member of the New York Cash Manager’s Association and Hoboken Retail Association.
He owned Jems of Hoboken Godiva store for 25 years. He retired in 1986 as a manager of Cash Investments for Westvaco Corp. in New York City. Marty was a veteran of the United States Army, Armor Division where he attained the rank of Sergeant Active serving from 1952 1954. He is survived by his partner James Murphy; three siblings, Thomas Gill and his wife Mary Lou, Rita Anne DeCelsis and Marian Roughneen; 18 nieces and nephews, and 23 grandnieces and grandnephews. Predeceased by his parents Martin and Delia and his brother James P. Gill and sister Eileen Bollbach. Services arranged by the Earl F. Bosworth Funeral Home, Hoboken.
