After tractor trailer carrying drinking water overturns on Route 440, another tractor trailer carrying cookies passes it and overturns too

BAYONNE – An 18-wheel tractor trailer overturned on Route 440 near Rutkowski Park in Bayonne Wednesday afternoon. Although the truck landed sideways on the guard rail, damaging the barbed wire security fence, the driver escaped unscathed, fire officials said.
The truck was found to contain a cargo of spring water. Workers were called to the scene to empty to content prior to the arrival of the tow truck. Engine oil fluids were contained by firefighters at the scene.
About an hour later, in the same area, a second tractor trailer overturned. Firefighters were still working at the scene of the first incident when the call was made for the second overturn. The driver of this truck, having passed the first overturned vehicle, overturned himself about quarter of a mile down the road, and came to rest partly in the dirt median. The driver managed to escape the cab without any reported injuries. The truck was reportedly carrying cookies at the time of the flip.
Engine oil fluids were contained by firefighters, as they waited for the tow truck to right the vehicle.
The Southbound lane was reduced to a single lane of traffic until the trucks were removed. The Bayonne Police department, and the Department of Transportation were also at the scene.
