Funeral mass was held July 28 at St. Joseph’s Church, Jersey City, for Howard M. Mahler, 88, of Fanwood, formerly of Jersey City. He passed away July 25 at the Center for Hope Hospice in Fanwood. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Mahler was a graduate of St. Peter’s College. He served in World War II in the US Army in both North Africa and Italy. After returning from the war, he began his career as an analyst for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a time he looked upon with great fondness. He later worked as the Chief Staff Accountant for Colgate Palmolive in Jersey City until retiring in 1980. Howard was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, Jersey City, an active alumnus of St. Peter’s College and a resident of The Chelsea Assisted Living in Fanwood. Howard was predeceased by his wife, Helen M., daughter Theresa Mahler Jones and his eight siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Cecelia Shaw and Ellen Greaves; sons Kenneth, Martin, Timothy, Lawrence, Christopher and Stephen Mahler; 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
