HOBOKEN – William J. Bott III, a floor specialist on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for Barclays, collapsed and died July 31 after playing three games of basketball after work. He was 33.
According to Bloomberg News, Bott, a familiar figure at the Church Square Park basketball courts in Hoboken, was leaving a gym in lower Manhattan when he suddenly collapsed, and was pronounced dead a short time later at a city hospital.
“Billy was really special,” said Hoboken resident Anita Shutt, who contacted the Reporter with the news. “He loved Hoboken, had purchased a home in the Maxwell Place about a year ago, and could be found on Sundays watching Giants games all over town, and tearing up the courts at the Church Street Park.
“He was just one of those people who everyone loved to be around. His charismatic personality was infectious, he did everything from working the NYSE floor for Barclays to sweeping up after a beach bash in Manasquan with integrity, honesty and kindness, and he gave huge, goofy, monster-sized hugs.”
Services for those who knew him will be held this weekend near his family’s home in Long Island.
