Dear Editor:
Recently, I had the opportunity to walk through Bayside Park and I talked with a few residents. One resident told me there is a lot of drug using going on at night. He showed me where people do it at and I saw evidence. There was a lot of insulin needle bags on the ground. Before the park opened in March, drug problems existed at Bayside. Even though there was a gate up, some people went over the gate and did drugs. Now that the park is wide open, the problem is getting worse. Bayside Park was nearly a $4.2 million project and it is getting destroyed. There needs to be more police presence at night. There are times I see a few patrol cars but the drug dealers and users are becoming aware. I’m urging Mayor Healy, Ward A Councilman Michael Sottolano, Councilman at Large Rolando Lavarro, Councilman at Large Viola Richardson and the Jersey City Police Department South District do something immediately about this issue. This can not be ignored. This is a public park where many young children play. Safety of Jersey City children is a top priority.
