Dear Editor:
As a 33 year member of the NJSO, and a 31 year resident of Hoboken, it makes me proud that my orchestra is once again making its presence felt in Hudson County. Except for these last two performances, the only other time the group has performed in Hoboken was in 1980 – actually near the site of last week’s show. But that site looks radically different than it did thirty years ago! Pier A Park is the ideal venue for an outdoor summer symphony concert. I hope this becomes an annual tradition in Hoboken, bolstering the city’s image as a vibrant arts community. Music is an important part of the life of a community, and it is particularly important to expose the young to good music. The NJSO does not just play concerts – it has significant educational outreach programs and also sponsors two youth orchestras; further, many of my colleagues and I teach in area colleges, and also privately.
We will continue our mission to entertain and uplift music lovers of all ages. Thank you to everyone who came out to hear us.
