Dear Editor:
Last night, June 28th, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra played in the park. Magnificent music, scenery that cannot be duplicated, water, lights…Oh, man! It can’t get any better than this…and free. That said, I have seen community associations devastated, blockbusting, intimidation, property destruction and people hiding in their places, thinking it would not be their property…Of course it would be. That is what ‘taking over means’…it means you, even if you ignore what they are doing, or join in, you are doomed in the ultimate plan. Yep, I’ve seen it, but never a whole town!!!!
Hoboken, take back your city. Do not live under rules that put you second, third or out. Separate your functions of history, zoning, the school board and make them viable, with power. Separate your housing authority, where the people that live there have the last say. They do contribute to voting and are active participants in their community. Open up the government, where your civil servants can scream from the steps (or you, for that matter). Tell your elected officials that they work for you. Inform employees and officials that the computer system belongs to Hoboken and anything they put on it is Hoboken’s property, for trading, publication, printing. Separate, separate, separate. When Hoboken politics was building up the community and “old” crews that had lived here for generations (and what is wrong with cherishing where you live and staying there?), protection wasn’t necessary. Now Hoboken is bigger and extremely desirable…so protect yourself and your future by making it impossible for any one elected official to force anything on you. It is not too late. The manipulations are becoming obvious, now, to everyone. Thanks Mr. Russo…keep the fight up.
