The Hoboken Housing Authority, in partnership with Jersey City-based Partners in Prevention, recently sponsored a seven-week Strengthening Families program for its residents aged 10 to 14 and their parents. Participants learned about resources in the community available to them, healthy communication, handling stress, coping with anger and much more.
Debrah Welch and her son, Chante, each wrote a letter about how much they meant to each other.
“Strengthening families throughout the housing authority is an important step toward self-sufficiency,” said Hoboken Housing Authority Executive Director Carmelo Garcia. “If our families are free of drug and alcohol abuse they will be able to focus on school, community and eventually gainful employment.”
As a culminating activity, parents and children wrote letters to each other about their feelings and the program overall.
