The second annual “Evening Performance” featuring students from Hoboken’s public schools was held along the waterfront in Sinatra Park Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m.
Parents, teachers, faculty, school board members, relatives, and the public gathered on the steps of the amphitheater at Fifth Street and Sinatra Drive to witness choruses, concert bands, string ensembles, and more perform pieces ranging from the classics to modern hits.

The public cheered on as the students performed pieces from their recent spring concerts.
Stars rise
“I was a little bit nervous, but it was fun,” said Ronni Bish, a third grade violin player with the Calabro School. Bish and the Calabro string ensemble performed “Ode to Joy” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
James Rodriguez of Calabro School said he enjoys both practicing and performing his violin.
“You get to play and practice a lot,” said Rodriguez. “I have a lot of fun with violin.”
Fourth grader Kayla Albuj also took part in performing with the string ensemble.
“I enjoy what we play; it’s so beautiful to hear,” said Albuj.
High School solo singers Briana Melendez and Leah Seickendick both expressed their passion for singing in front of a crowd.
“I like performing, and I love singing,” said Melendez, adding that the waterfront view only added to the thrill of performing. “Where we [perform] is a great view.”
“I like to sing. It’s my favorite thing to do,” said Seickendick, who performed a solo rendition of “Firework” by Katy Perry. “I also like seeing all of my family.”
‘A great night for the kids’
Calabro School music teacher Maria Monblatt said she enjoys the outdoor performance because it draws in members of the public.
“It’s nice because usually the spring concert gets students and their families,” said Monblatt, “and the kids get to be outside.”
Gary Enrico, director of the Rockin’ Red Wing Band, a concert and marching band, said that the performance made for a “great night.”
“The weather was beautiful,” said Enrico, “and it was a great night for the kids.”
“We have a great music program,” continued Enrico, “and it gives [the public] a chance to see what we’re doing.”
Enrico also thanked the city for the initiation to perform.
“The kids were very excited,” said Enrico.
Dave Stasiak, director of High School vocal soloists, also said he enjoyed the night.
“Everyone from the whole district performed,” said Stasiak. “There was a very high energy and [everyone was happy to be there.”
The Hoboken High School will put on another showcase, along with the drama department, Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door of the Hoboken High School.
