Hoboken Historical Museum releases upcoming events schedule

HOBOKEN – On Sunday, June 10, The Hoboken Historical Museum, 1301 Hudson St., will host Spring Family Fun Day from 12 to 4 p.m., an afternoon of fun, history, and hands-on projects based on the current tunnel exhibition. Admission for the event is free.
On Wednesday, June 13, the museum will host the Spring Jazz Series, beginning at 7 p.m. The event will feature trombonist Robert Edwards and vocalist Vanessa Perea performing American standards. Admission is $7 for guests and $5 for members, and includes light refreshments.

Jersey City gets $15,000 in state grants for people with disabilities

JERSEY CITY – The Christie Administration has announced the award of $292,500 in Recreation Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities (ROID) Grants. The funds will go to 36 municipalities throughout the state. Jersey City, the only Hudson County municipality to get the award, will receive $15,000.
“It is one of New Jersey’s top priorities to provide opportunities for people of all walks of life and all ability levels to fully participate in their communities,” said DCA Acting Commissioner Richard E. Constable, III. “These grants, which will assist with varied recreational programs, demonstrate DCA’s commitment to expand and develop recreational opportunities for people with disabilities on both the state and local level.”
ROID Grants provide funding assistance to local units of government to support local programs that provide recreation and leisure activities for persons with disabilities. Funding is allocated through the DCA’s Division of Housing and Community Resources.

City Hall exhibits student art

HOBOKEN –City Hall will exhibit selected art works by middle school students of The Hudson School through July 27 in the City Hall Lobby at 94 Washington St. The Hudson School’s Department of Art and Media provides a robust program of instruction in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and art history to students in grades 5-12. The Department of Art and Media is headed by Chairperson, Minna Packer, and distinguished faculty, Peter Ziebel and Holli Schorno. The Hudson School provides intellectually inquisitive students in grades 5-12, with a rigorous and relevant college preparatory program that inspires independent thinking with a goal of developing compassionate, responsible, and principled citizens.
