Avalon Bay premiered its fifteenth community in New Jersey with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 9, for Avalon North Bergen at 56th Street and Kennedy Boulevard. Local officials who took part included Mayor Nicholas Sacco, Commissioners Hugo Cabrera and Allen Pascual, Administrator Chris Pianese, Rep. Albio Sires, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner, Police Chief William Galvin and Assemblywoman Angelica M. Jimenez.
“Avalon North Bergen is a terrific addition to the township that we are very excited about,” said Sacco. “We’ve taken a useless, blighted parcel of land and turned it into a high quality housing and retail option right on Kennedy Boulevard. I’m very much looking forward to welcoming to North Bergen the new AvalonBay residents. I know they will come to love North Bergen as much as we all do.”

Apartments for rent
Avalon North Bergen has 164 luxury apartments with a multitude of amenities. They range from from a full-size washer and dryer in each apartment, fully-equipped gourmet kitchens with pantry and dishwasher, generous closet space, pre-wired for high speed internet access, a private balcony in select apartments, fully equipped clubhouse, state of the art fitness center and an underground parking garage for residents.
Currently 65 of the apartments have been leased, 28 of which are occupied, which is well over 40 percent. There are studio, one and two bedroom apartments available.

The apartments range from $1,507 to $2,130 and up, based on preference. The apartments overlook picturesque views of Manhattan and the Meadowlands, easy access to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and are accommodating to pets. The ground floor of Avalon North Bergen will have 17,000 square feet of retail space.
“This area of North Hudson is a tremendously diverse, interesting and vibrant neighborhood, convenient to New York City, and I’m sure that the new Avalon residents are going to love living in this part of the state,” said Rep. Albio Sires. “I’m also very happy to see a prominent parcel, fronting the most important artery in the county, Kennedy Boulevard, transformed into an attractive residence, with additional convenient retail space. This is a great addition to the community.”
Pride in growth
U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez was unable to attend so he sent a staff member, Tim Hillman, to present a congratulatory letter on his behalf, which said, in part, “Smart growth projects like this give residents what they are looking for: easy access to work and to world class restaurants, entertainment and shopping on both sides of the river. This is the kind of economic development and growth I envisioned when I started working on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail years ago, and it’s exciting to see projects like this coming to our communities.”
Assemblywoman Angelica M. Jimenez spoke about having Avalon North Bergen directly in front of her district office, and said she was happy that North Bergen is thriving.
AvalonBay was built in a year’s time and opened its doors well before schedule. There is minimal construction being conducted on the north side of Avalon.
