BREAKING NEWS: Union City Housing Authority receives subpoena from F.B.I.

UNION CITY — Housing Authority Director Virgilio Cabello has confirmed that the Union City Housing Authority received a subpoena from the Federal Bureau of Investigations last week. Other sources said the subpoena was served on April 30, which could not be confirmed. “We did receive a subpoena,” Cabello said. “I want to be very clear that the Housing Authority is not the intended target.”
He went on to say he could not discuss the matter further and referred The Reporter to authority attorney Libero Marotta. Marotta said Friday morning he would call The Reporter after a meeting with Cabello.
Calls to the FBI were directed to Special Agent in Charge of Housing and Urban Development Office of the Inspector General Cary Rubenstein, who said Friday he could not comment on any investigative matter.
On Thursday, a representative from the U.S. Attorney’s Office would neither confirm nor deny the subpoena. — Gennarose Pope
