Liberty Humane Society schedules a “Saved by the Bell” Trivia Fundraiser

Get your hair mousse ready and throw on those zubaz pants! Liberty Humane Society and Trivia, A.D. are taking you back to the ‘90s with a “Saved by the Bell” Trivia Fundraiser! Join Liberty Humane supporters on Wednesday, April 25 at 8 p.m. for five rounds of trivia covering the best episodes of “Saved by the Bell” – the high school years. The event will be held at Marty O’Brien’s Social Club, 94 Bloomfield St., Hoboken. Prizes will be given to the first, second and third place teams so be sure to brush up on your Bayside knowledge for a chance to win! Throughout the night, participants can also enjoy $3 Coors Lights and Yuenglings and $5 glasses of house wine. Log-on to the Liberty Humane website (www.libertyhumane.org) to purchase your $10 admission. If you’d like to play on a team, then please purchase your team members’ tickets in one transaction so that your team can be seated together.

All Saints Episcopal Day School Kidzcare Drive

Every 2.5 seconds someone needs blood – it could be a friend, a family member, or maybe even you. Blood donors participating in the Hoboken Community Blood Drive in cooperation with Community Blood Services will help to ensure that the transfusion needs of area patients are met. The drive is being held on Saturday, April 28 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., sponsored by All Saints Episcopal Day School, 707 Washington St. Any healthy individual, age 17 through 75 (16 with parental permission) and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive complimentary non-fasting cholesterol and glucose screening with every blood donation.

Monroe Center for the Arts will hold “Puzzle Project”
The Monroe Center for the Arts, at 720 Monroe St., will hold a puzzle art creation workshop as part of the “Puzzle Project” Sunday, April 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. in Studio C-304.
The “Puzzle Project” consists of thousands of 24 X 24 artistic puzzle pieces assembled together in a three dimensional installation. Currently, there are 4,000 pieces created in over 20 states and ten countries.
This fall, the Monroe Center will host an installation of more than 5,000 puzzle pieces. The colossal exhibition could make the Guinness Book of World Records, according to a release sent from the center. The start of this project can currently be viewed in the library.
General admission is $10 for the event, which will feature live music a student discount of $5 per puzzle piece.

Hudson School student art on display this week at Gallery 1200

Gallery 1200 presents an exhibition of drawings, paintings, sculpture and photographs by students and alumni of The Hudson School, Sunday, April 22 through Sunday, April 29. A closing reception for students, parents, and the public will be held Sunday, April 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Gallery 1200 is located at 1200 Washington Street, Hoboken. The Hudson School’s Department of Art and Media provides a robust program of instruction in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and art history to students in grades 5-12. The Department of Art and Media is headed by Chairperson, Minna Packer, and distinguished faculty, Peter Ziebel and Holli Schorno. Graduates of the Department of Art and Media have been admitted to prestigious colleges and universities, including: St. Martin’s School of Art and Design (London, UK), The Pennsylvania Academy, Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, School of Visual Arts, and The Cooper Union, among others.

Public Art is coming to the streets

Hoboken streets will soon offer some unique sites for outdoor exhibition space. Artists from hob’art will be painting some utility boxes along Washington Street. The city is calling for art work submissions on two other public art projects. City officials are currently working with Toll Brothers to display artwork on the fences surrounding their construction project located on Hudson Street between 11th and 12th Streets. In addition, the city is soliciting mural submissions for painting certain street intersections, as recommended by the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master plan.

HoLa Dual Language Charter School (HoLa) presents its 2nd annual Book Fair

Saturday, May 5, Cinco de Mayo, the HoLa Dual Language Charter School will hold its 2nd Annual Book Fair – ‘Feria de Libros’ – from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Monroe Center for the Arts, 720 Monroe St., Suite 301, Hoboken. Open to the public, the book fair will include Spanish and English language titles, guest readers, illustrators and authors including a NY Red Bulls player. There will be Spanish music performances, face-painting, crafts, a bake sale and more, including crafts and immersion summer camp information, and yoga demonstrations in Spanish by Mimi Yoga.
