Go Get My Kids: showing youth someone cares

Dear Editor:
In 2006, Go Get My Kids. Inc, Peace Be Still League helped to keep the peace throughout Jersey City for 105 days. The crime rate was drastically reduced and our youth and children played together without an incident. We worked together with C.A.B.A., the City Council, J.C.P.D., B.O.E., J.C.H.A., the Jersey City Department of Recreation, The Boys and Girls Club, Team Walker and the parents and youth of the program.
We have held 10 talent and fashion shows. The last show in 2011 hosted participants from five high schools and two colleges (Ferris, Lincoln, Snyder, Dickenson and Hudson County Vo-Tech, Colleges: Hudson Community College and Saint Peters.) We had in attendance 1,200 people – a full house with people from all over Jersey City.
Most of the youth that we worked with have, or are about to graduate, and we have to start all over again. We plan to reduce the dropout rate by implementing the program. We know for a fact that our program works in Jersey City and Newark. We believe that if we work together, we can minimize the violence and crime rate that will occur if we do nothing.
We are asking everyone in our community, our churches, local politicians, police departments, Board of Education and teachers, developers, local businesses, community organizations, and parents to donate $2 to the Jersey City recreation foundations, C/O GOGETMYKIDS. Inc., at 216 Central Ave. Jersey City, NJ 07307.
Together, we can hire our youth to work at our parks and housing sites. We will list all donors by name or anonymous on our GOGETMYKIDS Facebook fan page Listed under “People Who Care.” Our youth do believe that no one cares about them. This will be one way to let them know that we care about their safety. As a community, we will be able to strengthen the hope of our youth.
The spring program will run until Saturday June 23rd with our championship playoffs. We will also run a spring break boys and girls basketball and Double Dutch tournament. We would like to hire two adults and one high school student from each of our 15 sites. We will post the sites, Sponsors list, pictures, all programs we offer are on our Facebook page: Facebook.com/gogetmykids.
Thank you for your support in Go Get My Kid. Inc program and the peace process in Jersey City. If you have any question please contact me at (201)448-6771.

Humbly yours,
Dwayne Baskerville
