Volunteer Expo is Thursday, April 19 at the Loew’s
JERSEY CITY – In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the 4th Annual Hudson County Volunteer Expo will be held Thursday, April 19, from noon through 8 p.m., in the Loew’s Jersey Theatre, at 54 Journal Square, across from the Journal Square PATH/Bus station.
Representatives from dozens of Hudson County non-profit organizations in need of volunteer assistance will be there. Attendees to this free expo will be able to explore hundreds of local, short- and long-term volunteer, internship and community service opportunities, in a wide variety of service areas.

Hoboken Housing Authority passes ‘Pay-to-Play’ resolution
HOBOKEN – The Housing Authority has passed a resolution to implement a “Pay-to-Play” policy that would disallow business entities that make significant political contributions from receiving municipal public contracts from the authority.
“It’s basically what was passed by referendum at the city level in 2004,” said authority board member Jake Stuiver. “Now it has been expanded to include the Housing Authority.”
According to the resolution, the policy seeks to “avoid the perception of improper influence in public contracting and local elections.”
Hoboken music and art featured at Digable Arts Festival
HOBOKEN – Next weekend, the annual Digable Arts Festival will transform the Monroe Center, 720 Monroe St., into a huge collection of painting, sculpture, music, and crafts. The event is free and open to anyone of any age.
The Digable Arts Festival on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22, from noon to 7 p.m. will be the core event, organizer Roland Ramos has arranged a number of other activities, including two benefits this weekend in Hoboken and Jersey City, an opening night bash next Friday at Northern Soul, and a Tom Waits-themed after-party next Sunday at the Pilsener Beer Garden.
Jersey City art-punk ensemble Thomas Francis Takes His Chances will be among the over 20 acts performing.
The music at the Monroe Center will only be one component of this year’s Digable Arts experience. Also look for the following events:

Sunday, April 22
Tom Waits For The After Party, Pilsener Haus & Biergarten, 1422 Grand St. Hoboken, 7 p.m., free. Musicians from the Digable Arts Festival along with fans will be interpreting the songs of Tom Waits, accompanied by a house band.
