Bayonne Relay for Life Committee holds Second Annual Pasta/Comedy Night

On March 23, the 2012 Relay for Life committee held its second annual Pasta/Comedy Night, and they say the evening was a huge success. Donations poured in from Chris’ Corner, The Venice, Maria’s, The Big Apple, Buon Appetito, Paesano’s, Pizza Masters, Nuovo Venezia, Pompei, Mama Rosa, Goodfells’s, Fontana’s, Tony May, Rana, Paulanto’s, Judicke’s, and Little Food Café.
The Masons and Youth Masons from Peninsula Lodge 99 provided the venue and invaluable help throughout the evening. The comedians, Adam Lucidi, Kevin Williams, Phil Sweet, and Danny Palmer donated time out of their busy schedules.
“On behalf of Gail, Raeann, George, Cindy, Nicole, Joanne, Chrissy, ourselves, and the rest of the planning committee, we would like to say thank you to our supporters as well as those who attended. Thanks to your support and the support of the community we are working toward a world with more birthdays,” said Diane Lesiak and Mary Lindquist, 2012 Relay for Life co-chairs.

Fire house bids rejected

Saying that all bids received on the construction of a new fire house to be located near Route 440 came in too high, members of the City Council voted at a special meeting on March 28 to reject the bids and seek new bids. Operations at that location are currently being conducted out of a large tent and two trailers.
The city received ten bids to construct the fire house located at the foot of the former Military Ocean Terminal.
“Bids will be put out again for a more economical price,” said Joseph Ryan, a spokesperson for the city.
Most of the funding for the project is coming from a federal Fire Station Construction Grant.

Fire guts trailer at Hudson County Jail

A fire erupted in one of the maintenance trailers near the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny on Thursday, March 29, at about 10:30 a.m.
Located at the south east corner of the parking lot, the trailer was considered a total loss.
According to Frank Pizzuta, fire marshal, the fire appears to have been caused accidently by a malfunctioning HVAC unit. A final determination will be issued in the coming days after consultation with the Kearny Fire Department.
