NJ man passes away following hit-and-run in North Bergen

NORTH BERGEN – A Butler man was pronounced dead at 4:33 p.m. Sunday afternoon from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run on Tonnelle Avenue on March 23 at 11:45 p.m, according to North Bergen Police Detective Frank Mena.
Omar Monroig, 42, was struck by a “dark-colored” vehicle while crossing the street with another man to visit a restaurant and lounge on Tonnelle Avenue. Monroig was struck by the vehicle and carried roughly 110 feet northbound before coming to a stop in the road, police said. The two men were possibly intending to celebrate Monroig’s birthday, which occurred two days prior to the accident. –Stephen LaMarca
