Galaxy Towers resident struck by vehicle
A resident of the Galaxy Towers in Guttenberg remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Feb. 20 at approximately 3:45 p.m. near Boulevard East.
Peter Sacco, 89, was struck by a car making a left turn onto Bellevue Avenue from Ferry Road. The driver claimed to have not seen Sacco crossing the road.
Sacco is in the intensive care unit of Jersey City Medical Center, according to Mark Rabson, a spokesperson for the hospital. Rabson said that Sacco is receiving around-the-clock medical attention.
Guttenberg Police Captain Joel Magenheimer said that Sacco sustained significant head trauma.
A witness claims to have seen the pedestrian flipped into the air after being struck by the vehicle at a speed of 15 to 20 miles per hour, the report says.
A Guttenberg woman, the driver of the vehicle, was charged with careless driving.
Alleged juvenile burglaries lead to arrests
Guttenberg police arrested three juveniles on Sunday Feb. 26 for allegedly entering vehicles and stealing private property, according to a Guttenberg police report.
Police had responded to a call of a possible burglary at approximately 2 p.m. at 7000 Adams St. The victim stated that upon returning to his rental car – which had been left unlocked – he noticed his duffel bag containing clothing, cash, and other items was missing. The victim then said he noticed three juveniles allegedly fleeing the scene, and was able to catch one, the report says.
After questioning, police eventually arrested and charged three juveniles with burglary and theft by unlawful taking. One of the juveniles was also charged with providing false information. Approximately $230 worth of valuables had been stolen, the report says.
The victim’s duffel bag was also found in a nearby alley.
“Neighborhoods [have] been getting killed with breaking into cars,” said Magenheimer. “We were lucky enough to snag them.”
Leonardo Ramirez was the lead investigator in the incident.
