Dear Editor:
I attempted to shop at Carlo’s Bakery today to purchase goodies to bring away for the weekend. I am a tax paying resident of Hoboken for many of years and am shocked by the attitude and disrespect I received. Many times in the past I have entered the store with my license in hand (they at one time gave preference to Hoboken residents) to make my purchases. Today at approx 3:20 p.m. as I entered I was stopped by a rude teenager who addressed me as hey. I ignored his ignorance and handed him my license, he then pointed outside and said, behind that kid!!! I then asked, since when do residents wait on line?? He said now. I asked for the manager, and another child came forward. I explained that the residents in this town contributed to the success of this bakery well before the television fame. She said OK I will let the other resident enter also and you can wait here. As she walked away the rude teenage bouncer said, you can wait outside!! I then called the manager again and asked for her last name, which she refused to give!! Needless to say, I will never ever return to that store again.
I assume they get away with abusing all the customers that come from afar and wait in line for hours. What are they really getting? The good Italian pastry is uptown anyway. Only people from out of town want the cake from Carlo’s. They have gotten too big for there britches !!!
