BAYONNE — A 24-year old Bayonne man who was being considered for a substitute teacher job in Rutherford was charged with attempted sexual assault by the Passsaic County’s Sherriff’s Department at his home in Bayonne on Feb. 8, local officials confirmed Thursday.
The man was arrested as part of an on-line sting operation in which he allegedly sent explicit sexual messages to a sheriff’s officer posing as a 12-year-old girl.
Original reports on TV, radio, and on-line publications said the man was a teacher in the Bayonne School District.
Schools Superintendent Dr. Patricia McGeehan said, when contacted, “the man is a resident of Bayonne, but he is not an employee of this school district.”
