88-year-old resident robbed of approximately $2,000 by woman on street in uptown Hoboken, police say

HOBOKEN – An 88-year-old Hoboken man was robbed of approximately $2,000 on Feb. 7 at 5:40 p.m. on 14th Street between Garden and Bloomfield streets, according to a police report.
The alleged robber was described by a witness as a light skinned female, between 25 and 30 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches tall with a medium build, and medium length brown hair which was pulled back into a pony tail, according to a police report.
The 88-year-old man and his wife, both of Hoboken, were approached by the woman, who police say acted as if they knew the couple. The woman even hugged the two, police said, and told the man it looks like he lost weight. Then, police say the woman asked if he had any money.
The man was carrying between $1,500 and $2,000, police said. When the man pulled the money out of his pocket, police say the woman allegedly grabbed the money and ran across the street to a waiting vehicle parked west on 14th Street, where a Hispanic male was waiting in the driver’s seat, police said. The vehicle drove away.
The police are actively investigating the incident. — Ray Smith
