Dear Editor:
As President of hob’art co-operative gallery, Hoboken’s only nonprofit artist’s collective, I am writing to express the members’ appreciation of the help and support we received from Mr. Hershy Weiss and the Monroe Art Center. During the ten years of our existence, we have been looking and hoping for a permanent space in Hoboken to exhibit the art of our members. Now Mr. Weiss has helped to finally achieve that goal. His wonderful acts of generosity and support to the 59 artist members of hob’art is also a sign of the Monroe Art Center’s wish to engage all the citizens of Hoboken.
Having our own gallery space will allow us to not only have exhibitions but to offer workshops, film nights, and discussion sessions to all the members of Hudson County. As a nonprofit entity, with the goal of helping artists expose their work to viewers, we can continue our work of offering free workshops to the Hoboken Shelter clients, the visually impaired, and families.
The hob’art gallery at 720 Monroe Street will open to the public on February 10th, from 6 to 8pm. On February 25th, we will have a grand reception celebrating the gallery and our first exhibit, “Celebration,” which will fill the space with color and joy. More information can be seen on our website, www.hob-art.org. New members are welcome to apply.
Again, thank you Hershy Weiss for being a visionary and for wishing to enrich the lives of our community.
Sincerely,
Liz Cohen
