A funeral mass was performed Jan. 18 at St. Michael’s Church, Jersey City, for Christopher Mariano Mahan, 22. He passed away Jan. 7 while stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La. Born in Jersey City, he was a graduate of the Rafael de Cordero School in 2004 and from James J. Ferris High School in 2008. While in high school he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In March of 2011 he returned to the Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana where he specialized in logistics for the US Air force. He received the 49th Transportation Battalion Army Achievement Metal in March of 2010. Chris was active in many volunteer groups while stationed in Louisiana, including The ReNesting Project, Salvation Army, Disaster Relief, Providence House, and the North West Louisiana Volunteer Center.
He was the son of Mariano DeJesus and Susan MahanDeJesus; brother of Jamie and Tiana Mahan, Diana, Romeo, Karen, Christian and Pricilla DeJesus; grandson of Raymond Mahan. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles. Services arranged by the IntrocasoAngelo Funeral Home, Jersey City.
