Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ) honored individuals and groups for their dedication and commitment to the mission of Special Olympics at their annual Awards Dinner at the Westin Princeton on Friday, Nov. 18.
Among those honored was Cindy Saunders of Union City, who was named the 2011 Outstanding Athlete of the Year in spring sports. Saunders has been active in SONJ for over 30 years, competing in swimming, track & field, alpine skiing, and the sport she was honored for – bowling.
Robin Rotenberg, a member of the SONJ Board of Trustees, said during the awards presentation, “Cindy is an example of an athlete who focuses on being the very best she can be. Through her dedication and commitment to the sport of bowling, she will no doubt take her skills out into the community and represent Special Olympics New Jersey in community and house leagues for years to come.”
