JERSEY CITY BRIEFS

New library hours

The month the Jersey City Free Public Library introduced new library hours.
The main branch at 472 Jersey Ave. is now open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Extended hours will also be offered twice a week in the Vincenzo Domenico Bonetti II Children’s Room. The Children’s room will be open late, until 8 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Other days the Children’s room is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The city’s three storefront library branches – Marion, West Bergen, and Lafayette – will return to a five-day schedule, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other larger branch libraries – Cunningham, Five Corners, Greenville, Heights, and Miller – will all now be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More than pigeons and weeds

If you see a bird soaring through the skies of Jersey City, probably seven times out of 10 it’s a pigeon. But on those other three occasions, well, it could indeed be a rare breed.
On Saturday, Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. until noon, Liberty State Park’s Nature Interpretive Center will hold its first “discovery day” of the New Year. The guided tour of the park’s hands-on activity stations will allow visitors to learn about unique birds and trees that exist right here in Jersey City.
The program is free, but registration is required.
