Dear Editor:
I returned to Hoboken from a trip to discover my friend and dedicated public servant, Maurice Fitzgibbons, had passed.
My prevalent memory of Maurice was his kindness and concern. He wore many hats, but always tried to come through whether it was to fundraise for a cause or support a friend or a principle he believed in.
He was open about his being gay long before it became an acceptable, popular cause.
He helped many people (including me) to find jobs, places to live, medical assistance.
He was a professional, dedicated public servant and a private supporter of many causes and people.
Maurice told it the way he saw it which irked some people. He was not a phony! We did not always agree but remained friends.
What a loss to the community and myself. He loved and supported the arts. Bravo, Maurice! Much applause for your kindness and life well lived!
