UPDATED: Young man, Ian Burnet, missing in New York City since before New Year; has family in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY AND BEYOND — A Jersey City family is involved in the search for their cousin who hasn’t been heard from since visiting New York City in the days after Christmas.
Ian Burnet, 22, hails from Richmond, Va. and was visiting friends in New York City at the end of December. He is a student at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Various reports say that Burnet took a bus to the city the day after Christmas and last contacted his parents by text on Dec. 27. A roommate of his says he spoke with him on Dec. 30.
That’s where the trail grows cold.
According to a Facebook page set up to find Burnet, his father and brother have been passing out flyers in New York City to find him. (You must log into Facebook to see the page.)

UPDATE: A person who says he’s Burnet’s sibling posted these details on Reddit:

“His last credit transactions were for a $20 Metro card on the 30th and a Burger King transaction we believe was on the 31st. He had been staying [on] W 139th St in Harlem, with two vietnamese girls and a few people I never met. My father and I traveled in our family minivan to the city yesterday and visited his apartment. The girls he’d been staying with had left, and all his bags were left behind. He left his phone, his wallet, his laptop, his trees, his iPod, and all his money. He did NOT leave his ID, a jacket, or the Metro card he bought… we believe these items were on him.
“We’ve put up fliers and we’ve talked to the shelters and the cops but I don’t know what else to do. He has a history of depression and he was in a strange place. He was an engineer, a redditor, and the most important person in my life. I need your help.”
