Sen. Menendez speaks about Fitzgibbons; wake and funeral information released

HUDSON COUNTY — U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez released a statement Tuesday about the death of longtime friend and ardent Hoboken-based Democrat Maurice Fitzgibbons, who passed away Sunday night (see earlier story linked below).
Menendez said, “Maurice Fitzgibbons was one of the kindest, most caring people I have ever met. He prided himself on bringing people together and kept the spirit of community alive in all of us. He was a “small-d” democrat as well as a Democratic Party leader who believed in mentoring the next generation and taught them to live up to his high standard of excellence. Maurice cared about people and was a strong advocate for the arts because he believed the arts were a reflection of the best in all of us. He was taken from us far too soon, but his distinguished service to the people of Hudson County will be a legacy that will live on for generations to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
The wake will be held Wednesday at the Lawton Turso funeral home at Seventh and Washington Streets in Hoboken from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mass will be at St. Ann’s Church in Hoboken, Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
