Bayonne school district says it should be getting millions more in state aid

BAYONNE — Some local school districts, including Bayonne and North Bergen, feel left out because a revised 2008 school funding law gives more money to other towns in the county due to factors including the socioeconomic status of the towns’ children.
Officials say the district should have gotten as much as $50 million more since the law went into effect in 2008. Bayonne started a “Bayonne Kids Count, Too!” campaign last Wednesday to draw attention to the need. They held a public forum that day at Bayonne High School that drew more than 300 people, according to a story on NJ.com.
An article quoted Schools Superintendent Patricia McGeehan as saying, “We have quite a needy population and it’s quite challenging for us to meet their needs, and without having the backup and the resources, it’s very difficult.”
