Judge orders H&H Bagels owner and others to pay $1.4M

SECAUCUS AND BEYOND — A Jersey City judge ordered H&H Bagels, its owner and other companies connected to the company, which had operations in Secaucus until recently, to pay $1.4 million owed for equipment lease payments to Florida businessman Robert Benjamin and his company, DLC services, according to The Record. Last month a New York bankruptcy judge approved the sale of the Secaucus warehouse of the once famous H&H Bagels. The struggling company vacated the Secaucus premises in May and shut down its operations in New York in June.
Helmer Toro and his former brother-in-law Hector Hernandez first opened H&H Bagel in 1972 in the Upper West Side and expanded operations to Secaucus in 2006. The company employed 75 people in Secaucus. The company has experienced financial trouble in recent years and has been involved in bankruptcy and legal proceedings.
