HUDSON COUNTY — A firefighter for North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue, which serves five towns in Hudson County, was suspended without pay as of Wednesday and hit with approximately 25 administrative chargers after a resident reported seeing a fire vehicle outside Weehawken’s Squeeze go-go bar on Thanksgiving eve, according to NJ.com.
NHRF&R Co-Director Jeff Welz told the media outlet that the firefighter’s charges included conduct unbecoming an officer, dereliction of duty, driving with a suspended license, parking at a hydrant, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission.
Welz said the officer was off duty at the time that the department SUV was spotted.
According to the story, “Fire officials then told police that no one had been authorized to use the SUV, which was towed back to NHRF&R headquarters in West New York.”
The firefighter will face a disciplinary hearing next month.
