The Journalism Education Association has awarded Barbara Martinez of Hoboken N.J., the JEA Friend of Scholastic Journalism Award. This award may be given to any individual or group making a significant contribution to scholastic journalism.
Martinez was an award-winning journalist with the Wall Street Journal for 19 years, recently leaving reporting to spend more time with her young family. She has also been a member of the Dow Jones New Fund’s board in several capacities.
This past school year Martinez set up an e-mentoring program connecting Wall Street Journal reporters with high school journalists.
Friend of Scholastic Journalism awards will be presented Nov. 19 during the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Minneapolis.
