Portion of Hudson waterfront walkway near hotel, close to Weehawken/Hoboken border, almost complete

WEEHAWKEN AND BEYOND — Someday, everyone will get to bike or walk all the way from Bayonne to the George Washington Bridge, along the Hudson River.
According to Ron Simoncini of Hartz Properties, the final 30-foot portion of Weehawken’s section of the Hudson River Walkway behind the Sheraton hotel area is set to be completed by the end of 2011.
According to New Jersey law, all developers along the river are responsible for the section of walkway on their properties.
The unfinished section lies just north of the Weehawken/Hoboken border on a section of Hartz-owned property.
The Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy of New Jersey oversees the creation of the walkway, which will ultimately continue along the water for 18.5 miles.
In 1984, the Public Trust Doctrine of New Jersey formed the legislation that granted the public access to the waterfront. –Gennarose Pope
