JERSEY CITY – Viola Richardson and Rolando Lavarro, the victors in the recent Jersey City council at-large special election, will be sworn in Monday, Nov. 21 in a 4 p.m. ceremony in City Hall Council Chambers.
The swearing in ceremony will begin with the raising of the Filipino flag in honor of Lavarro’s heritage and Jersey City’s Filipino community. Lavarro, assistant director for the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs at New Jersey City University, is the first Filipino to be elected to office in the city.
Councilwoman Viola Richardson has served as the Ward F Councilwoman for the past 10 years.
Richardson and Lavarro will begin their new roles as at-large city representatives next week when the council holds its caucus session on Monday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. and public meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
