Funeral mass took place Nov. 10 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church for Joseph William Kumiega, 92, a lifelong resident of Jersey City. He died on Nov. 7 at Hoboken University Hospital. He worked as a welder for the Monsanto Company in Kearny for more than 25 years. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and served as a ship fitter third class aboard the USS West Point. He was a member of the VFW Post 226 and the American Legion, Mackenzie Post 165 in Bayonne, and was an avid reader of the newspapers. He was the husband of the late Alfreida (Husarz) Kumiega; the father of Edward Kumiega; uncle of Stanley Kiebus, Michael Kiebus, Ronald Gajewski, Matthew Mitchell Kiebus and the late Dolores Chmielewski.
