SECAUCUS AND BEYOND — Secaucus-based Syms Corp. and its subsidiary, Filene’s Basement LLC, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, according to news reports. The retailer experienced significant operating losses over the past two years and could not find a buyer after going up for sale last May.
Syms expects to close in January. It will liquidate assets and sell its inventory and real estate in the coming weeks. The company has 2,500 employees and 46 stores. The company first opened its doors in 1959.
