Former Gov. Corzine, a Hoboken resident, resigns from troubled company

According to media reports, former Gov. Jon Corzine, who lives in Hoboken, resigned Friday as the CEO of MF Global, the financial firm that is being investigated by the FBI. The firm made $6.3 in investments in European debt, which some investors considered risky. Then, this past Monday, the firm filed for bankruptcy.
Corzine’s resignation comes just days after it was revealed that the FBI and other federal regulators were investigating the company’s financial issues to determine whether the company used client funds improperly.
Corzine reportedly called his resignation a “difficult decision, but one that I believe is best for the firm and its stakeholders.”
Corzine, who lives in Hoboken’s Maxwell Place building on the waterfront, will reportedly decline a severance package worth $12.1 million.
